Halley predicts an eclipse to the minute
A total eclipse of the Sun swept across England, right on the schedule Edmond Halley had published in advance, accurate to within four minutes. Predicting the heavens that precisely showed how powerful the new Newtonian astronomy was, and it helped ordinary people see an eclipse as wonder rather than omen.
