    The first jet airliner carries passengers

    A BOAC de Havilland Comet took off from London bound for Johannesburg, the first scheduled flight of a jet airliner carrying paying passengers. Flying higher and faster than propeller planes, it began the era of everyday jet travel.

    A plant-based meat company goes public

    Beyond Meat became the first plant-based meat maker to sell shares on a stock exchange, opening for trading on the Nasdaq in New York. The stock rose 163 percent on its first day, a sign of how far appetite for meat alternatives had grown.
