Cesar Milstein is born
The biochemist Cesar Milstein was born in Argentina. In 1975 he and Georges Kohler worked out how to make monoclonal antibodies, identical immune molecules produced to order, each one homing in on a single target. They became everyday tools in research and the basis of a whole class of modern medicines, from cancer drugs to home pregnancy tests.
