    Michael Faraday is born

    Michael Faraday, the bookbinder's apprentice who became one of the great experimenters, was born in south London. His discovery that a moving magnet creates an electric current became the basis of every generator and electric motor. He turned electricity from a curiosity into the power behind modern life.
