Gravitational waves are detected at last
The twin LIGO detectors in the United States felt a faint ripple pass through spacetime, the first direct detection of gravitational waves. It came from two black holes that spiraled together more than a billion years ago. Einstein had predicted such waves a century earlier, and the catch opened a new way to listen to the universe.
