Arthur C. Clarke is born
The writer Arthur C. Clarke was born in England. Years before the space age, he worked out that satellites parked in one spot high above the equator could relay signals around the world, the idea behind every TV and weather satellite today. He also wrote the stories that taught millions to dream about space.
