Mars Pathfinder sets off with the first Mars rover
NASA launched Mars Pathfinder, carrying a small rover named Sojourner toward the red planet. When it arrived the following July, Sojourner became the first wheeled vehicle to roam the surface of Mars, and it proved a lander could be delivered cheaply and fast.
