India reaches for Mars on its first try
The Indian Space Research Organisation launched the Mars Orbiter Mission, nicknamed Mangalyaan, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre. It made India the first nation to reach Mars orbit on its first attempt, and it was built for a famously small fraction of the usual cost.
