Electricity is found to flow with no resistance
In a Leiden laboratory, Heike Kamerlingh Onnes cooled mercury to about 269 degrees below zero Celsius and watched its electrical resistance drop suddenly to nothing. He called the new state superconductivity. More than a century on, it powers the giant magnets inside MRI scanners and particle colliders.
