Microsoft is founded
Bill Gates and Paul Allen started Microsoft in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to write software for the first tiny home computers. The idea that ordinary people would want a computer, and programs to run on it, still sounded far-fetched. Within 20 years it was on desks almost everywhere.
