The Sun is photographed for the first time
The French physicists Leon Foucault and Hippolyte Fizeau captured the first photograph of the Sun, a daguerreotype that froze the solar disk in one-sixtieth of a second and even caught a few sunspots. It was the start of solar photography, and of studying the Sun by keeping a permanent record of its face.
