Joseph von Fraunhofer is born
Joseph von Fraunhofer was born in Bavaria. He discovered hundreds of dark lines crossing the Sun's spectrum, and those lines turned out to carry the chemical fingerprints of the star that made them. His work let astronomers read what the Sun and other stars are made of, without ever leaving Earth.
